The Internship

Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn reunite post-Wedding Crashers in this latest buddy comedy from director Shawn Levy (Date Night, Night at the Museum). The two almost-middle-aged wristwatch salesmen lose their jobs and go for broke, applying for a summer Google internship.

Do you really want to know the rest? ★

By all accounts it's a 119-minute ad for Google. Google requires the most genius, creative minds. Google needs hard workers. Google doesn't discriminate against age, gender, or race. Google has segways. Google has a slide in its glass-encased compound. Google has nap pods. Google has free food. Google red. Google blue. Google yellow.

It's good to see team Wilson/Vaughan together again. They have undeniable chemistry--Wilson's drawl and Vaughn's mania are the perfect juxtaposition--and they even make the best of the script, which I can only assume was qwertied on Google stationary, mailed to them in a primary-colored envelope. But nothing can save them from the protracted commercial they signed up for.

There are moments worth giggling at--a trip to a night club particularly sticks out--but all in all, its banal premise and hokey message make for an unmemorable trip through Silicon Valley. And to be perfectly honest, I had reservations about using "unmemorable", lest "unforgivable" be too hyperbolic.
